The 4th annual Network Ball was held on Saturday 1st December, and this was certainly the most distinguished year yet. Acknowledging that this was the centenary year, the ball organisers decided to grab the bull well and truly by the balls and hold the event on a river boat on the Thames. The boat was not humungous considering there was about 40-odd people on board, but that didn’t really matter. The disco had to be shut down every time we went through a lock, but that didn’t really matter either. Nor did it matter that one of our members fell into a drunken state of unconsciousness on the journey home and got stripped of his clothes by the event organiser. What’s important here is that everyone got into the true spirit of the event, and made the most of the night in true scouting style; black bow-ties and cufflinks, a three-course meal, piping hot mulled wine, an uber-loud disco on the top deck, and a shit-load of radio lunch-boxes for everyone, all in celebration of Baden Powell – it is 100 years of scouting after all.
